How to use the CPS test

Click the test area once to begin, then keep clicking inside the same area until the timer finishes. When the run ends, the page shows your elapsed time, total click count and average CPS. For a fair comparison, use the same mouse, the same hand position and the same test duration each time you repeat the test.

Very short runs can vary a lot because your first few clicks may be faster or slower than your normal rhythm. Instead of judging your speed from one attempt, run the test a few times and compare the average. A controlled rhythm is usually more useful than one unusually high score caused by a short burst.

What does your CPS score mean?

Your CPS score is calculated by dividing the total number of clicks by the number of seconds in the test. For example, 30 clicks in 5 seconds equals 6 CPS. This does not mean every second was exactly the same; it shows your average click speed across the full run.

For normal computer use, a very high CPS is not necessary. In games, click speed can matter in some situations, but aim, timing, movement and control often matter just as much. If your hand gets tired quickly or your aim becomes worse while trying to click faster, a steadier pace may be more useful than chasing the highest possible score.

Is a click speed test the same as a CPS test?

Yes, in most cases a click speed test and a CPS test describe the same type of tool. Both measure how quickly you can click and usually report the result as clicks per second. People may also search for terms such as CPS checker, clicks per second test, click test or mouse click speed test when they want this kind of measurement.

This page is for measuring click speed, not for diagnosing a faulty mouse switch. If you think one click is being registered as two clicks, use the mouse double click test. If you want to check left click, right click, middle button, scroll and basic mouse behavior together, use the mouse test.

What affects click speed?

Mouse shape, button stiffness, hand position, desk surface, browser performance and test duration can all affect your CPS score. Some mice have lighter buttons and feel easier to click quickly, while others require more force. If you use a wireless mouse, battery level, receiver position and connection stability can also change how responsive the clicks feel.

Mouse DPI is not the same thing as CPS. DPI describes pointer sensitivity and movement behavior, while CPS describes click speed. Both can matter in games, but they measure different things. If you want to estimate movement sensitivity separately, use the mouse DPI test.

Tips for a better click speed test

Keep your hand relaxed and place the mouse on a stable surface before starting. Treat the first run as a warm-up, then compare the next attempts. Avoid pressing too hard or locking your wrist, because aggressive clicking can tire your hand quickly and make the result less consistent.

When tracking progress, look at your average over several attempts instead of only the highest score. If your average CPS improves while your hand stays relaxed and your rhythm remains controlled, that is a more useful sign of progress. To measure a different skill, use the reaction time test, which focuses on how quickly you respond after a visual cue.

Does CPS matter for gaming?

CPS matters more in some games than others. In games that reward rapid clicking, the score can help you understand your clicking rhythm. In many other games, timing, positioning, aim and decision-making are more important than raw click speed. Use the CPS test as a practice and comparison tool, not as a complete gaming skill score.
